Welcome to the puchi-otaku world of an American Salaryman in Osaka. The new car smell has worn off, and jaded in Japan is the lifestyle, but at least there's always games, gundam and everything else otaku. This is our wandering story of on American who works long hours, hits his head on small doors, and tackles the language barrier. Welcome to my life.
Sorry to keep you guys waiting, but here’s the final product. Questions, comments, etc. are welcome. Overall, the black makes it look much more bad ass than the regular blue. Hmm… something to consider doing with an MG kit…?
Well, THIS just came out of the blue. You heard it right, Perfect Grade 00 Gundam is in development! Here we think we’re finally getting our first 00 Gundam MG, and in the middle of the Gundam 30th Anniversary year, and Gundam UC project, we certainly wouldn’t even expect Bandai would jump to the second season of 00 and bring us a PG at that! Can already see light up gimmicks coming for sure!
Rather than keep you waiting, lets go ahead and jump into the WiP, it’s short and simple.
The box, like the SD Gundam is monochrome as well
The runners are all black, with the original manual, plus bonus seals
The leg parts, one leg completed at the top
Followed by the arm
The body and waist are molded as two parts, with backpack at the bottom
Power cables are snap and fit
The torso/waist completed
All the parts ready to be put together
Compared to the HGUC Hi-ν and Geara Doga, the Gouf build is much simpler, especially with the waist and torso molded as two parts to be snapped together, as this is a much older kit. This leads to some limitations with the leg movement and posing (no splits for him!) but that can’t be helped. Again, the draw of Ecopla is the pure black, as it looks pretty cool overall. While you can sort of see the gate mark damage left from snipping off the runners, overall, it doesn’t really stand out. In fact, this is a pure cut and fit, with no sanding/design knife trimming at all. Anyways, next post will be the completed shots.
First off, details regarding the Green Tokyo Gundam Project version of the HGUC Gundam… well, actually, I’ve already got people for them, and two shipped out already and the last one claimed, so I’m just going to leave it be. At this point, while I would like to check out the Gundam at night, most likely I will not be going out to see it again while it’s at Daiba. Unfortunately it’s still about an hour trip from my home and Yokohama, and while I could go after work from Shibuya, I don’t foresee that happening at this point. Now if a bunch of you want to throw money at me to go get more, I suppose that would always work, but I don’t want to see too capitalist here!
So, that out of the way, I’m looking ahead to the Gundam Expo to be held next month. I’ll be going on the 1st day, which is Friday, so would be up for a Gaijin Gunplar オフ会 or meet up if anyone else is planning on going. As there is quite a bit of event Gunpla scheduled to be released, I would not be against picking up a few extra kits… within reason (both financially and in my ability to carry them around all day!) Having seen 2 hour lines at the Daiba event, I can only imagine the lines at the Gundam Expo though…I can already see this being something that I’ll have to line up well before the doors open.
Next up, the summer project. The end of the rainy season was officially announced for the Kanto region of Japan (thank god) so it’s going to be safe to spray away and not screw things up. While I’m currently building a couple of kits off and on, my serious project for the summer is going to be none other than everyone’s favorite destroyer of Gunpla fun and joy, the Sinanju, with a custom color scheme. I’m currently considering a blue/silver scheme, but need to sit down and look at colors before making final decisions. At this point I’ve not planned ahead to if I’ll be using AM parts, but we’ll see. The tentative start is going to be towards the end of July and hope to take my time with it through August.
Last update, finished the Ecopla Gouf last night, and will post pictures next post. Also need to do some category and link cleaning as well.
I whipped through the ecopla version of the SD RX-78-2 Gundam and here’s the pictures. For those not familiar with ecopla, this is Bandai’s way of participating in the new Eco trend occuring everywhere. The plastic used is all recycled from leftover plastic. It makes sense, as I’m sure you all are familiar with the fact that there is tons of plastic left over after finishing a build. Do to the recycled use, the plastic comes out as black, creating yet another “version” of Bandai’s popular kits. Yet another way to whore the same thing out to the public, while making more money, and making it easier for guys to convince their significant others that it’s ok to spend more money on more kits. “But honey, it’s eco!” Hey, I can’t talk, I bought two myself.
Anyways, from my understanding, ecopla is currently only being sold at Bandai’s hobby center in Shizuoka prefecture and the occasional show. So these could be considered somewhat limited release. For those in the greater Tokyo Region, being able pick these up during the Green Tokyo Gundam Project period is a great opportunity.
The box is black and white
And the runners all black. Comes with special seals
The head, the eyes really stand out now with the black
All the parts ready to be put together
You can build the core fighter as well
Or the core booster.
Overall, the black actually looks fairly cool, and unlike black parts of other kits, there isn’t much white residue or damage from snipping off the parts. The few seals then actually accent the black as well. While no pictures of it posing, it’s a SD kit, so don’t expect that much. Still the black gundam is very compact and cool. Recommended if you can pick one up.
Thanks to the Green Tokyo Gundam Project, my new found interest in HGUC, and the upcoming Gundam Expo I’ve got quite a bit of content to update with over the next few weeks.
On the burner:
Green Tokyo Gundam Project HGUC kits
My 3rd HGUC kit
The ecopla kits
The Gundam Expo
My next MG kit
My summer MG project
You get the idea.
While everyone’s still excited about the 1/1 Gundam, I’ve already started looking ahead to the Gundam Expo to take place on 8/21 – 8/23. I’ll actually be taking the 21st off, so am planning on heading out to the event. I’ve suprised no one has caught this yet, but the Gundam Expo site has been updated with the event only goods. Without further ado:

EXTENDED MOBILE SUIT IN ACTION!!RX-78-2 GUNDAM MEMORIAL Ver.
Hmm, for the most part, clear versions of 00 Gundams, and bringing in the clear veresions of models released at other events. The EF of Shar’s Zaku II is a maybe, but at $65 is a bit on the expensive side. On the other hand, first day events include the Ring of Gundam 30 minute movie, plus panels with the original Gundam cast, plus more, so looks like I’ll be getting a ticket.
Anyways, a short note for today, look forward to more updates about the goods from the Green Tokyo Gundam Project this week.
